Architecture
Renowned local architect Aubrey David was responsible for designing some of the most stunning properties to be found on the Costa del Sol. He designed beautiful residential developments as well as numerous private villas and country properties. Bahia de Casares is one the most aesthetic and picturesque of these urbanisations. Built on elevated land just 200m from the beach, the properties here have spectacular coastal views.
Aubrey and his wife Muriel came to Spain from South Africa in the mid 1950s. He was a young idealistic ambitious architect. They first lived in Mijas where Aubrey was instrumental in bringing running water to what was then a desperately poor primitive village.
In the 1960s the Davids (by now they had a daughter) moved to Estepona where Aubrey built his first urbanisation right on the coast- Villas Andalus east of Estepona. This group of “cluster houses” became one of the first developments of this type of community-living in the world. It remains much sought after property to this day.
He then went on to develop the much larger more complicated urbanisation of Bahia Dorada a few kilometres west of Estepona, where some 300 cluster houses are set in manicured gardens with six community pools also right on the coast . This development went on to become a showpiece of community living on the Costa del Sol.
Beginning of 1970 the urbanisation Bahia de Casares was built with his famous design.
